VHS Speech Team Wins 2008 Ice Breaker Tournament

The Valentine High School Speech Team
emerged from their home tournament victorious on Saturday, January
12, by winning the first place team trophy. In Serious Prose,
Varsity Champion was Katie Young, followed by team mates Sarah
Simmons, third, and Katie Tehrani, sixth. In Humorous Prose,
Varsity Champion was Caitlin Brown, followed by Katie Young,
second, and Staci Starr, sixth. In Varsity Informative, Laura
Hamlling was third. In other Varsity events, Poetry medalists were
Megan Hoefs was second , Amy Graham, fourth, and Paige May, fifth.
Extemp medalists were Kevin Klein, second, and Laura Hamling third;
in Persuasive, Klein was third with Brandon Ormesher, fourth. In
Varsity Duet, the team of Sarah Simmons and Lizzie Medema placed
fourth. In Varsity Entertainment, Ryan Butler was fourth followed
by Heather Lutter, fifth.
In Novice events, Katie Isom was Double Champion in
Persuasive and Humorous; Jasen Ramos placed third in Persuasive as
well as Informative. Novice extemp Champion was Bri Butler,
with Esther Petersen third. Entertainment novice medalists were
Jacob Tehrani, second place; Esther Petersen, third; Kari Qualley,
fourth and Makenzie Leonard, fifth. The novice duet team of Leonard
and Qualley placed seond.
