Chadron State 2008 Music Festival invites Valentine Music Students

 Chadron State 2008 High Plains Music Festival

 

Valentine High's Band and Choir students participated in the 36th annual High Plains Band and Choir Festival at Chadron State College.  The workshop was February 5 & 6.  There were 24 schools representing 4 states.  

Valentine students chosen to sing in the High Plains Men's Choir were:  Ethan Larsen, Tyler Schmitz, and Micheal Perreet.  Dr. Joel Schreuder was the guest conductor and his choir sang: Come Travel With Me, Bel Piacere, O Mistress Mine, The Pasture, and Whistle Maggie Whistle.

Page May, Tracy Critchfield, Kassi Risseeuw, Calli Johnson, Kelsey Ryschon, and Erin Dunn were chosen for the High Plains Women's Choir.  They were under the direction of Dr. Una D. Taylor and they sang:  Thou My Everlasting Portion, Will There Really Be a 'Morning?," Camino, Caminante, and Dies Irae.  Chradron State student, Natalie Dunn, joined her sister in this choir for a couple of songs.  Several CSC Choir students joined members from their school for this choir.

High Plains Mixed Honor Choir members from Valentine were:  Amy Graham, Sarah Simmons, Liz McQuistan, Baley Sargent, and Nate Dodson.  Dr. Jamie Spilline was the guest conductor for this choir.  Selections chosen were:  It Takes a Village, The May Night, The Heavens Are Telling, The Prayer of St. Francis, and Praise His Holy Name.  Ellie Petersen was chosen for a group solo part in the song, The Heavens Are Telling.  

Ester Petersen, Staci Starr, and Allison Whitney were picked to play in the High Plains Festival Band.  All three girls were selected for chair placements.  Ester was 2nd Chair Baritone, Allison Whitney was 2nd Clarinet - 1st Chair, and Staci Starr was 1st Flute - 2nd Chair.

A great big thanks goes out to Mrs. Russell for all her hard work with her musical students so they can perform on this level.  Also, Mrs. Sharla Johnson is commend for being the sponsor for the students.  Congratulations once again to the students from VHS who made this Festival Concert worth attending!!
