VCS High School Quiz Bowl Team Places at State

Valentine High School Quiz Bowl team, coached by Boyd Powell, made the finals of the State Quiz Bowl Competition by defeating Bellevue West in the semi-finals. The Valentine team was byed into the second round of state competition where they defeated Medicine Valley 30-5. In the third round, Hastings Adams Central was Valentine's opponent and Valentine defeated them 55-20 to move on to the fourth round. Valentine defeated Norfolk Catholic 55-5. Riding a hugh wave of momentum, Valentine defeated Bellevue West in the Finals 45 -15. Being a double elimination tournament, Bellevue West defeated Perkins County in the Consolation Finals 60 - 15 for the right to challenge Valentine in the best of 2 matches. Valentine lost the first match 60 - 35 and the second match 70 - 45.
Twenty-six teams participate in the 2008 State Quiz Bowl Competition. Valentine was represented by: Chairman Trent Harris, Co-Chairman Ryan Butler, Alex Arnold, Katie Young, Katie Isom, Kevin Klein, Ethan Simmons, Eric Lindvall, Daniel Dugan, and Sarah Simmons.
Valentine High School first place 2nd in Quiz Bowl in 1990 and they placed 4th in 2005.
Next year the Valentine Quiz Bowl team consist of this year's juniors and sophomores and McKenzie Owen, Jessica Sharp, Katie Tehrani, Zane Parkhurst, and Chris Young.
