8th Graders Complete Undefeated Season
The Valentine Middle School 8th graders completed an undefeated season this year, not only were they undefeated, but they also did not give up a single point in their 4 victories. They defeated Todd Co. 46-0, Winner 6-0, Gordon-Rushville 30-0, and Ainsworth 35-0. Offensively they were effective through both the air and the run. Coach Brown said, “This is one of those special groups that you can make adjustments, and they catch on quickly. We had the weapons to score from anywhere on the field, and that couldn’t happen without great blocking up front. These men realized that it took all 11 guys on the field to function as one to be successful, and it is obvious how successful they were by their accomplishments.”
Coach Pettigrew was in charge of the defense and his young Badgers pitched a shutout this season. The boys only had 1 team penetrate inside their 20 yard line. We don’t keep stats, but we are pretty sure that 3 of the 4 teams we played ended up with negative yards for the game. Coach Pettigrew said, “Our discipline and knowing our assignments were key with our success. These men had a goal in every game, and that was to keep the other team from scoring, and they accomplished their goal. These boys have a bright future if they decide to work hard in the off season and hit the weight room hard.”
The 7th graders completed their season with a 3-1 record. They beat Todd County 12-0 , Gordon/Rushville 18-0, Ainsworth 12-0 and were defeated by Winner 18-0. The 7th graders worked on the fundamentals of blocking and tackling and learning to play as a team. The 7th graders were coached by David Prasch and Shane Allison.
