In recent studies, Nebraska ranked 12th nationally in percentage of overweight or obese adults at a whopping 63.2%! In an effort to promote wellness and reduce this percentage, school nurses at Valentine Elementary, Middle and High Schools will be team captains in a team wellness program called N-Lighten Nebraska. This 3-month effort encourages Nebraskans to start and maintain healthy eating and physical activity habits. Using a team format, team members are encouraged to work together toward the common goal of living healthier lives.
Starting February 1, participants keep track of their physical activity and healthy food choices during the week, and these translate to a point value. Points are then added online and a leader board tracks all the teams’ progress. This is a statewide competition. Registration has started but anyone can sign up throughout the program.
To learn more about healthy choices and to be good role models, we would like to start by offering this program to the staff, with us as team captains. Check the web at www.n-lightennebraska.com. Flyers and brochures are available in the schools, or contact Lori Clapper RN or Ivanna Purdy RN for more information. Teams can have up to 10 people each, so the more teams the better!
It is not too late! Sign up and start some new healthier habits with N-Lighten Nebraska!
