*3 states of matter: a solid, liquid, and gas
*Heat causes matter to change state
*Mass is amount of matter
-measured with a pan balance or standard masses
* Volume amount of space matter takes up
-graduated cylinder or beaker
-water displacement
-length X width X height = volume in cubic units
*Density compares amount of matter to the space it takes up
-mass divided by volume = density
* Solution is a mixture in which the particles of different kinds of matter are mixed
*Solubility is the measure of the amount of material that will dissolve in another type of matter
*Buoyancy is the ability to float
* Physical change: any change is the size, shape, or state of matter
*Chemical change or chemical reaction: produces a new substance and may release energy
