Semi-Annual Highway Cleanup

Valentine Middle School Staff

November 21, 2003

Valentine Middle School Staff completed their yearly highway cleanup project Thursday October 11, 2007. The highway cleanup project occurs two times a year, once in the spring and again in the fall. The highway cleanup is a community service project as well as demonstrating community service to the students. Valentine Middle School Badger Pause groups also complete community service projects throughout the school year.

The Middle School Staff began doing their project during the 1990-91 school year. Nebraska began the Adopt-A-Highway program in April of 1990. The Adopt-A-Highway program recognizes groups who clean at least 2 miles of state highways.  The Valentine Middle School staff cleans Highway 12 from the south end of the Deer Park Golf Course north to the top of the Hwy 12 Hill.  This project was headed by Mr. Walkling for many years, then Mrs.Gass too it over when Mr. Walkling retired, and now Mrs. Shelton is in charge of organizing the clean-up!  Thanks Mrs. Shelton and all the middle school teachers who take part in the cleanup!
